公益財団法人農学会 会長挨拶Message from the Prseident
公益財団法人農学会は、我が国の近代農学黎明期である1887年（明治20年）に、初めての農学関係の学会として設立された農学会をその前身とし、以来130年以上にわたり我が国の農学の教育研究の振興に携わってきました。その間、1932年（昭和7年）に財団法人農学会となり、2012年（平成24年）には新公益法人法のもとで新たに公益財団法人農学会となり今日に至っております。
本法人の目的は、「農学に関する研究教育組織並びに学協会等との連携により、農学に関する研究及び教育を振興し、持続的な農林水産業の発展を図ることにより、人類福祉の向上に寄与する」ことと定款で定めております。 具体的には、若手研究者の顕彰事業としての日本農学進歩賞の授与、日本技術者教育認定機構（JABEE）の技術者教育プログラムの運営による農学分野の技術者教育の推進、年2回の公開シンポジウムの主催と関連機関が開催する学術講演会の共催や後援による農学研究成果の普及・啓発などの事業を行っています。
過去3年間に主催した公開シンポジウムでは、「持続可能な食料システムに向けて」、「有機農業のいまとこれから －持続可能な社会への貢献－」（2021年度）、「家族経営農家の飽くなき挑戦と地域創生」、「ウイルスとたたかう農畜水産」（2020年度）、「ICTが変える食料・農業・農村」（2019年度）のテーマを取り上げました。SDGsの国際的取組に代表される持続可能な社会の構築に向け、食料生産を担う農学分野の貢献に関する科学的な情報の発信を積極的に行ってきました。2020年初頭からの新型コロナウイルス感染症の感染拡大によって、会場での開催が困難になってからはオンラインによる開催となり、遠隔地の皆様にも視聴いただけるようになりました。今後、会場開催が可能になっても、オンライン視聴も併用し、より多くの方への情報発信に努めてまいります。
近年、異常気象の頻発など気候変動が顕在化しています。生物と環境から構成される地球システムは、食料、環境、エネルギーなど、持続可能な社会を構築していく上で、緊急に取り組まなければならない多くの課題を抱えており、農学が果たす役割はますます大きくなっています。公益財団法人農学会は、広く社会との連携を深め、従来の枠にとどまることなく、農学に関する研究教育を振興することにより、人類福祉の向上に貢献してまいります。

Message from the Prseident
The Foundation of Agricultural Sciences of Japan (FASJ; public interest incorporated foundation) was founded in 1887, at the dawn of modern agricultural science in Japan, as the first academic society related to agricultural science, and has been involved in the promotion of education and research in agricultural science in Japan for more than 130 years. The foundation became an incorporated foundation in 1932 and shifted to a public interest incorporated foundation in April 2012 under the new Public Interest Incorporated Foundation Law.
The purpose of FASJ is to contribute to the improvement of human welfare by promoting research and education about agricultural sciences in cooperation with related research and educational organizations, and academic societies, and to promote the continuous development of agriculture, forestry and fisheries. Specifically, FASJ conducts activities such as awarding research achievements of young scientists, promoting engineering education in the field of agricultural science under the Engineering Education Program of the Japan Accreditation Board for Engineering Education (JABEE), and disseminating and enlightening the scientific information on agricultural sciences by sponsoring biannual public symposia and co-sponsoring or supporting academic lecture meetings held by related organizations.
Public symposiums organized over the past three years include "Toward a Sustainable Food System", "Organic Agriculture Today and Tomorrow: Contribution to a Sustainable Society" (FY2021), "Family Farmers' Insatiable Challenge and Regional Development", "Fighting Viruses in Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries" (FY2020), and “Food, Agriculture, and Rural Communities Transformed by ICT” (FY2019). We have been actively disseminating scientific information on the contributions of the agricultural sciences, which are responsible for food production, to the construction of a sustainable society, as represented by the international efforts for SDGs. Since the pandemic of COVID-19 from early 2020, it has become difficult to hold the symposium at the venue, and the symposium is now being held online, making it possible for people in remote areas to join the symposium. Even if it becomes possible to hold the event at a venue in the future, we will continue to make efforts to disseminate information to as many people as possible by using online viewing as well.
In recent years, climate change has become more apparent with the frequent occurrence of abnormal weather events. The global system, which is composed of living organisms and the environment, faces many issues that must be urgently addressed in order to establish a sustainable society, including food, environment, and energy. The role of agricultural science is increasingly becoming important. FASJ will contribute to improving human welfare by deepening cooperation with society and by promoting research and education in agricultural sciences without limiting ourselves to conventional frameworks.
